Admiring his reflection in his favourite mirror (Happy Monday)

Just found this vintage Happy Mondays performance. It’s the song ‘Performance’ off Bummed. Apparently it was on Granada TV, but who cares. What an awesome band they were. It’s such a shame that what they started only seems to live on in sterile bullshit like The Twang or Hard-Fi. The Mondays had real swagger, they dressed like football hooligans and wrote songs that reflected the absurd and grotesque aspects of growing up in a bleak situation, instead of writing songs that sounded like they were cobbled together by a focus group for Carling Black Label’s marketing team or one of those WKD ads.

The excellent VBS.TV series Soft Focus is interviewing Shaun Ryder this week. Shaun doesn’t too much away in this part, but he’s usually pretty entertaining, so hopefully it’ll be worth watching.

Check out the other shows. The Billy Childish and Genesis P-Orridge ones are really good, too. Most musicians are up their own arses, dull as fuck and have precisely nothing to say so it’s nice see ones who are eloquent, intelligent and who don’t take themselves too seriously.

I could not find your contact information on your blog so I will leave this in the form of a comment. I am in a band that I think deserves a listen: http://alexbarrow.wordpress.com/2007/12/12/the-norman-rockwells/
Thanks.
