My Love For: Wonderful Broken Things

After endless research over many years, I’ve finally found something on these guys. When i was about 14 i was hooked on the track Roam Around which was featured on the skate vid Hocus Pokus. They sound somewhere between The Violent Femmes and the Meat Puppets (Up on Sun) era. Birds Fly High sounds like something Nirvana would of covered (mtv unplugged) if they’d heard of em. The recordings are fairly low quality, but that’s what makes em so special if you ask me. Trains is a classic track….i love the laid back / country feel of it, with the harmonica etc…

I’m not sure if this is correct but I think the singer Jeff Klindt was one of the founding members of the label Future Farmer Records who are partly responsible for M Wards success. Sadly Jeff Klindt is no longer with us but the remaining members of the band have reissued the album Scotchtape & Threadspools (1988) on itunes. They’ve also done another album called Looking For Mike Lookinland (1989). Apparently these tapes were stored in a garage till 2006, until one of the members found them.

I think it’s really good that bands like this are reissuing material that would of otherwise be totally lost, I never imagined I’d ever be able to get my hands on these recordings, so I’m super happy about this. If there’s one thing you do today, head over to their myspace page and listen to these tracks !!!
