So last Sat, i woke up feeling blurry eyed, stumble into the kitchen, made a cuppa tea and sat down looking out my icy windows, whilst listening to Silje Nes - Ames Room in a semi conscious state. It’s the perfect record to wake up to; I have a section of albums at home labelled ‘Wake up, morning section’ and this one is going top of the pile.
There’s hints of Stina Nordenstam, Camile and Juana Molina in Silje Nes’s music, her voice is breathy and intimate, which sits nicely along side the warm and dreamy instrumentation. She experiments on a wide range of instruments and seems to have a knack for producing beautifully organic, almost childlike music. The song structures don’t sound like they’ve been thought about to much, which is a good thing. It almost sounds like the tunes were improvised, or made up on the spot; the record definitely has a loose / lo-fi feel to it, which adds to it’s charm and originality.
It’s the imperfections in life that makes things beautiful and Sije’s music is a perfect example of fragile perfection. (Buy)
